Angling

County Arms Hotel Birr is the host for the prestigious coarse fishing event, the King of Clubs 2009, attracting 300 anglers from the Netherlands, Belgium and Luxembourg. By staging this event in South Offaly, the Shannon Regional Fisheries Board have committed to upgrading the facilities for fishermen with new jetties along the River Shannon at Banagher and across the River Shannon at Portumna with some major refurbishment and upgrading of the River Shannon banks within 10 minutes of the County Arms Hotel Birr.

Birr is famous for fly fishing and the croneen trout is native to this area. The Little Brosna and Camcor rivers boast the Little Brosna & Camcor fishing club and County Arms Hotel are happy to arrange ghillies to manage fishing trips to fish the croneen trout in the Birr area.
